Cut and Paste, Start Again

Arienette

Arienette has a face she saves for people she doesn't know what to do with: the clerk at the convenience store who has come on to her in broken english, every day, twice a day, since she was 12.
People who talk about the weather while she waits for the bus. Or ask her questions she couldn't understand, but seemed only to need an affirming nod to be over.

It's a face that should say, "You frighten me. To the very core of my being, you frighten me." But instead it seems to say, "I'm sweet, and childlike, and interested, please go on."
One day, she'll snap.
